NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY IN THE WORKS. YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT.

Not only is Halloween around the corner but so too is a new Star Wars film - without George Lucas at the helm.

With news that Walt Disney Co. has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion came the announcement that the mouse house plans to release Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015 - WITH TWO SEQUELS TO FOLLOW. Is it just me or does that sound like a downright bargain considering how much the films still generate in merchandising rights alone!

Roger Iger, chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Co. said of the purchase “Lucasfilm reflects the extraordinary passion, vision, and storytelling of its founder, George Lucas. This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”

This investment comes just three years after Disney took over Marvel Entertainment in 2009 for $4 billion.

Be still my nerdy little heart.

TRAILER THURSDAY

When this project was first announced, I'll admit I had my reservations. After all, Hopkins is one of the greatest actors living today but even he isn't immune to a bad movie (Fracture, anyone?) I love movies, sure, a faux behind-the-scenes on the producting surrounding one of the greatest films in cinematic history AND the amazing Helen Mirren?! Sign me up. Check out the just-released trailer for Hitchcock, which chronicles the events surrounding the making of Psycho:

MID-WEEK MOVIE REVIEW

Hotel Transylvania
This super cute animated film about a hotel for monsters takes some time to set up the premise but once it gets going has a lot of sweet moments and is genuinely funny (and even manages to poke fun at Twilight.) Before you torture yourself through the whole movie like I did, Adam Sandler plays Dracula, Selena Gomez his angsty 118 year-old daughter, Andy Samberg the human who unexpectedly wanders into the upscale hotel and Cee Lo Green plays his good friend the mummy. Family friendly with plenty of laughs for adults, definitely check it out.

Looper
Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt...playing the same character? Believe it. This futuristic action flick about a time-traveling hit-man packs a lot of punch and while I was distracted by JGL's prosthetics to make him look like Willis (they play the same man, 30 years apart), the plot is complex and interesting enough to keep your attention throughout. Not for kids or if you have an adorable 10 year-old. Trust me on this one.
